picture gallery

The picture gallery - the largest private gallery of any country house in Scotland - is a magnificent room and quite the most spectacular space designed by Robert Reid in 1811 for George Home, 16th Laird of Wedderburn. The gallery now exhibits over 70 paintings from the National Galleries of Scotland.

The Picture Gallery an outstation of the National Galleries of Scotland, focuses on British Art from 1760 to 1840, the hey day of Paxton House itself. There are masterpieces by Raeburn, Wilkie and Lawrence amongst many of local interest such as Sam Bough's Berwick upon Tweed and the Rev John Thomson's Fast Castle.

Please note that the Picture Gallery may be closed for specific events.
