The Paxton Trust
Paxton House and the 80 acre estate were bequeathed to the nation by John Home Roberton and was established as a charitable trust on 17th November 1988. The house is amoungst the finest Palladian Houses in Britain. It contains the pre-eminent Scottish collection of Chippendale furniture and acts as an outstation of the National Galleries of Scotland. The house was restored and developed to include new visitor facilities and was first opened to the public in 1992. It is now run by a non-profit making trust and is a recognised charity No. SC002177.
What We Are About
Our mission statement states that:
The Paxton Trust exists to preserve, protect and enhance, for public benefit, Paxton House, its collection and the estate in which it stands. The trust’s chief goal is to facilitate and encourage access to and appreciation and study of the collection, to advance the cause of education and social welfare and actively to develop and promote such activities as will best serve these ends.
The funds of the Paxton House Trust are held for charitable purposes and exists to ensure the following:
- The preservation of the Mansion House at Paxton for the public benefit.
- The protection and preservation of the amenities of the estate at Paxton for the public benefit.
- The preservation of furniture, books, works of art etc. as an adjunct to Paxton for public benefit.
- The encouragement of access to and appreciation of Paxton by the general public.
- The encouragement of the advancement of education and the interests of social welfare at Paxton.
